CODIR’s “7 EO Territories” Training Session.

The executive committee of a transportation company was briefed on the 7 Domains of Operational Excellence to strengthen the performance culture and launch the first initiatives.

Background

The management of a transportation company wanted to launch a management initiative to strengthen the performance culture and engage the teams. To that end, the first step was to raise awareness among the executive committee, with the goal of establishing shared principles and a common vocabulary and launching pilot initiatives.

It would have been a sure thing if:

  • The members of the Executive Committee shared a common vocabulary.
  • The first initiatives were identified.

The process:

  • Interviews with key members of the Executive Committee to understand their expectations and the initial level of readiness in preparation for the training.
  • Organizing the training day into four subgroups to explore the seven Domains of Operational Excellence and discuss perspectives, experiences, and beliefs.
  • A plenary debriefing session at the end of the day:
    • Preparing for the role of sponsor: a “red hats/green hats” workshop to test your presentation.
    • Assessment of team maturity across the 7 Territories.
    • Selection of the first projects to be launched.
  • A transition of the end-of-day activities to in-house staff, with support from the four Cubik facilitators, to encourage participation and ownership.

Our results:

  • An Operational Excellence roadmap has been launched, beginning with the preliminary planning of the first initiatives.
  • “We share a common vocabulary, and our discussions have been rich and intense.”
  • “The goal has been achieved; the Executive Committee has taken concrete steps.”
