Structuring the Moringa peregrina supply chain to ensure stable production and support farmers in adopting practices that respect biodiversity.

Moringa peregrina, a rare and valuable shrub species native to the arid regions of the Middle East and the Horn of Africa, is now attracting growing interest for its nutritional, cosmetic, and medicinal uses. In light of this trend, the industry must organize itself to meet market demands while ensuring sustainable production that respects ecosystems.

Mission Objective

Our initiative aims to map the entire Moringa peregrina supply chain —from agricultural production to processing—in order to secure the supply and ensure that practices comply with the highest environmental standards.

Our Approach

We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the crop’s growth potential, taking into account the different types of farms in the region. This assessment made it possible to:

  • to identify favorable agroclimatic conditions and crop constraints;
  • to assess production potential based on farm size, resources, and practices;
  • to identify investment needs (infrastructure, equipment, sustainable irrigation, harvesting systems);
  • to identify technical support needs in order to strengthen producers’ skills;
  • to assess market requirements and the necessary standards (quality, traceability, sustainability).

Farmer Engagement Plan

A phased engagement plan has been developed to support producers in building their skills and adopting sustainable practices. This plan includes, in particular:

  • identifying priority farmers to join the supply chain,
  • defining support measures tailored to each operational profile,
  • a structured deployment schedule to ensure a controlled ramp-up of production.

Strengthening Environmental Best Practices

To ensure the sustainability of the supply chain, we have provided training to producers on best practices that promote the protection of biodiversity, including:

  • sustainable management of natural resources,
  • the conservation of local species and their associated habitats,
  • the integration of agroecological practices adapted to arid environments,
  • reducing the environmental impact of farming operations.
